Fish climb the ladder on the Mianus in Greenwich
GREENWICH — Volunteers welcomed visitors to learn about more about how the fishway works along the Mianus River in Cos Cob on Saturday.
Kids used nets to get closer looks at blueback herring and eels found at the fishway each spring.
The ladder is one of 44 fishways throughout Connecticut and is used to count the yearly migration of alewife, blueback herring and other species that swim upstream to spawn. At the height of the season, thousands of fish can move upstream at the site in a day.
