Bid to withdraw guilty plea in girlfriend’s death rejected
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — A judge has denied a man’s request to withdraw his guilty plea in what authorities said was the suffocation death of his girlfriend after his deliberate high-speed car crash.
Twenty-four-year-old Benjamin Klinger was sentenced to 28 to 56 years in prison after pleading guilty last year to third-degree murder.
Prosecutors in Lancaster County said he was driving more than 100 mph when he intentionally sped his car into a guardrail in Rapho Township and then suffocated 17-year-old Samantha Heller in December 2012.
Klinger sought to withdraw the plea and go to trial, saying his attorney gave him bad advice and didn’t fully investigate potential defenses. The judge rejected his arguments.
