CHICAGO (AP) — Chinese government officials are coming to Chicago to discuss major agricultural trade issues between the United States and China.

The 25th session of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade will be hosted Dec. 16-18 by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman. Among those participating will be U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.

In a news release, Pritzker said that expanding trade relationship between the two countries is critical to strengthening the U.S. economy.

Pritzker is a Chicago business executive, philanthropist and longtime friend of President Barack Obama. The high-level session is the latest major meeting that has come to the city since Obama’s election. In 2012, the city hosted the NATO summit.
