Local YouTube star known for family videos to star in Rocky Horror Show

August 7, 2018

This fall, a local YouTube sensation will star in a live, local production of The Rocky Horror Show just in time for Halloween.

The Rocky Horror Show is a musical based on the 1975 classic cult film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” which features Brad and Janet, an innocent couple seeking shelter at a spooky castle.

The musical, presented by Theatre Raleigh and performed outdoors at Booth Amphitheatre under the moon and trees, will be filled with catchy music and outrageous creatures like Dr. Frank N. Furter and Riff Raff, who will be played by YouTube sensation Penn Holderness.

Holderness has worked in the TV business for 18 years and is known locally for his work as a news anchor and ESPN reporter as well as a vlog of hilarious video compilations featuring his wife and two children.

Holderness posted a video after he was cast for the musical expressing his excitement. According to Holderness, he was selected to play Riff Raff largely due to his resemblance to the character and the animated singing and dancing he shows off on his vlog, titled “The Holderness Family.”

The show is performed by Theatre Raleigh and will run Oct. 26-27. Tickets start at $22.50 for lawn seats and can be purchased online.
