Ventura County won’t make annual contribution to agency

    November 9, 2017

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — For the first time in years, county officials have voted against making its annual contribution to the Ventura County Resource Conservation District following a report questioning its financial sustainability.

The Ventura County Star reports the Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 Tuesday to withhold its annual contribution for fiscal year 2017-18.

A memo to the board from County Executive Officer Michael Powers states the county has contributed $38,000 a year to the district for several decades.

A county analysis released last week concludes the district, which runs water and soil conservation programs, is in “dire” financial shape.

Scott Powers, who directed the analysis, says the board wants to ensure the district is financially sustainable before the county contributes any more taxpayer funds.
