Double-OT Win for UML Field Hockey
LOWELL -- Senior Torrie Huk found the back of the cage in the 87th minute to complete her hat trick and lift the UMass Lowell field hockey team to a 4-3, double-overtime victory against Columbia on Friday night at Wicked Blue Field.
“This was a great hockey game,” said UML coach Shannon Hlebichuk. “To go into double overtime, it’s always one of those heart-thumping experiences, but I thought we had a good plan in place and performed well from start to finish.”
The River Hawks (3-1) improved to 3-0 at home for the first time since 2015. Freshman Grace Davis also scored while Jenna Berger had 2 assists.
Junior goalkeeper Eva Berkhout registered three saves on the night, all of which came in overtime .
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The UMass Lowell volleyball team fell in straight sets against host Drake on Saturday at the Knapp Center in the Drake Invitational finale. The set scores were 22-25, 13-25 16-25.
The River Hawks drop to 1-9 overall with the loss, while the Bulldogs improve to a perfect 9-0 overall. Junior outside hitter Madi Bell finished with a match-high 12 kills, to go along with nine digs in the losing effort for the River Hawks. Senior middle blocker Lade Adeniyi chipped in with four kills and four total blocks. Adeniyi was named to the All-Tournament Team.
UML dropped a pair of matches against South Dakota State (3-1) and Eastern Illinois (3-0) on the opening day of the event on Friday. Lade Adeniyi, Madi Bell and Malia Randolph led the Lowell effort.
