Police: Reported attempted abduction in Lake Delton fake

December 29, 2018

A reported abduction attempt in Lake Delton on Dec. 21 has been deemed false by authorities in the Lake Delton Police Department.

According to a press release, authorities in the village’s police department were contacted by the Outlets at the Dells mall in the morning of Dec. 21 about an attempted abduction of a woman, based on a Facebook post that provided a licence plate number and description of the suspected abductor.

Lake Delton police investigated the information from the Facebook post but were unable to corroborate the provided information. The license plate listed in the post was not associated with any vehicle, according to a release by authorities.

Due to a lack of contact information, police were unable to obtain additional information from the person who made the Facebook post, and authorities said no victim came forward to make contact with or file a complaint with either the Lake Delton Police Department or authorities in surrounding agencies.

Although police concluded the post was fake, the investigation into the information provided in the Facebook post will remain open if new information becomes available.
