WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Top-seeded Barbara Potter advanced to the semifinals of the $100,000 Virginia Slims of Kansas with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory Friday night over Leila Meskhi of the Soviet Union.
Potter, of Woodbury, Conn., will face fourth-seeded Susan Sloane in Saturday’s semifinals. Sloane, of Lexington, Ky., advanced with a 6-2, 6-3, victory over Louise Allen of Winston-Salem, N.C.
The other semifinal will feature Amy Frazier of Rochester, Mich., and Meredith McGrath of Midland, Mich.
Frazier, the sixth seed, advanced by default when Helen Kelesi, the No. 2 seed, withdrew from the tourney because of a lower back strain. McGrath, a wild-card entry, reached the semifinals for the first time on the Virginia Slims tour with a 6-1, 1-0 win over the Netherlands’ Manon Bollegraf.
Bollegraf retired from the match when a congestive cold hampered her breathing.
McGrath upset third-seeded Raffaella Reggi in straight sets earlier this week.
The singles champion will earn $17,000.
