Rockwell Schnabel Named Commerce Deputy Secretary

WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Bush is promoting Rockwell Anthony Schnabel to the No. 2 job in the Commerce Department, the White House announced Tuesday.

Schnabel, 54, would succeed Thomas J. Murrin as deputy secretary of commerce, if confirmed by the Senate.

Schnabel became the under secretary for travel and tourism in 1989 after four years as ambassador to Finland. He is a Dutch-born former business executive.
