Florence One Schools to host Vocal Star contest Tuesday

FLORENCE, S.C. — The Florence One Schools will host its Vocal Star competition on Tuesday at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMT) building at Florence-Darlington Technical College.

There will be three divisions in the competition elementary school, which will take place at 5 p.m.; middle school, which will take place at 6:15 p.m.; and high school, which will take place at 7:30 p.m.

The district will name a winner from each division.

In the elementary school division, Gracie Horger, Briggs Elementary; Jacob Gray and Gennalyn Gray, Dewey L. Carter Elementary; Kennedy Jolley, Kayla Sheffield and Karleigh McKay, Moore Intermediate; Layla Hall and Troy Rush, Royall Elementary; Eiljah Godbolt, Timrod Elementary are competing.

In the middle school division, Andre’ Dolford, Grace Cunningham and Chesney Blacknin, Sneed Middle; Eve Evans, Jaden Pratt, Elizabeth Richardson, Tyler Russell and Trinity Gade, Southside Middle; Rebecca Laws, Williams Middle are competing.

In the high school competition, Tripp Taylor, Olivia Parrot, Joshua Anderson, Mackenzie Shelley and Morgan Matney, South Florence High; Alyssa Porter, West Florence High; Hanna Ward, Seaby McPherson and Bre’Anna Young, Wilson High will be competing.

“The opportunity students experience in this competition teaches skills through music performance that will enhance their entire life,” said Performing Arts Coordinator Laura Greenway about the competition.

Tickets will be on sale for $5 at the door of the competition.
