Two women, dog evacuated from Portage house fire
Authorities say two women and a dog were safely evacuated from a house fire Monday morning.
Various police and fire departments responded to the scene around 11:45 a.m. Monday on East Howard Street as massive plumes of black smoke billowed into the sky.
Portage assistant police chief Keith Klafke said firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire around 12:15 p.m.
Klafke said authorities had not immediately determined a cause of the fire. He said the fire started in the garage.
