Utah Valley Educator of the Week: Melissa Jones
Have you ever wondered how a kindergarten teacher makes it happen every day with a classroom full of 5 year olds? Most people would agree that it takes a very special person. Mrs. Melissa Jones is just that teacher. She has been teaching kindergarten at Orchard Elementary School in Orem for many years. She is the first Daily Herald educator of the week for the new school year.
Principal Kerry Milner stated, “When you walk into Mrs. Jones’s class there is no doubt that she loves her students. Mrs. Jones has been teaching for 31 years and I can honestly say she is still one of the most kind-hearted, positive, caring, gentle and cheerful teachers I know. You can’t help but smile when you are with her! Basically, only one word is needed to describe Melissa: ‘fabulous!’”
Mrs. Jones’s mother taught kindergarten while she was growing up, so it really came naturally for her. She loves being a teacher of these young students because it’s their first opportunity to join the school culture. She appreciates the trust parents place on her as she gets to provide a safe and secure classroom where they learn to read, do math and learn all about the world around them.
Mrs. Jones stated, “I try to make it my goal to make sure every child knows of their value. These students have the ability to do that for others. It is my job to instill a founded confidence in each one of my students.”
