Officials plan dune project to protect beach from erosion

August 31, 2018

ORLEANS, Mass. (AP) — Officials in Cape Cod town are considering building a dune to protect a local beach from erosion.

The Cape Cod Times reports Orleans officials are planning to meet in the fall to discuss Nauset Beach. Board of Selectmen chairman Alan McClennen says the town will be forced to take some pavement out of the parking lot and build an enhanced dune.

Orleans demolished a snack shack and moved a gazebo to higher ground in March after up to 40 feet of dune was undercut.

Town leaders are considering two beach plans that each cost over $1 million. McClennen says the town will probably ask residents to help fund part of the selected plan.
