The Douglas County Management and Finance Department and Douglas County Chief Financial Officer Jessica Hansen have received top honors for financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

They received a Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting from the organization for their comprehensive annual financial report, also known as a CAFR, for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The award was presented to Hansen at the Douglas County Board of Commissioners meeting Wednesday.

It’s the 30th year that the county’s Management and Finance Department has achieved the honor.

Commissioner Chris Boice said in a news release that Hansen and her team work very hard.

“This award is a testament to their dedication and continued pursuit of excellence,” he said. “We are thankful for the work they perform day in and day out to achieve this high level of recognition.”

One of the criteria for receiving the certificate is that the county demonstrates a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to communicate its financial story, the news release said.
