Drug Task Force Investigating Del Camino Fire After Finding Evidence of Hash Oil Extraction
The Weld County Drug Task Force is investigating a fire reported Tuesday morning at a Del Camino hotel after investigators found evidence of a butane hash oil extraction.
The fire was reported at the First Interstate Inn on Highway 119 at 4:54 a.m., according to a news release from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency personnel saw smoke coming from one of the hotel rooms when they arrived on scene.
Two men were taken to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Aurora after suffering burns. While they were initially stable, the news release says that their conditions became serious and they are being treated for “serious burns” at this time.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing, according to the news release. Butane hash oil extraction can involve a variety of chemicals or solvents that are highly flammable. Those accused of causing hash oil explosions can face criminal charges , including hazardous extraction of marijuana concentrate.
