Prairie du Sac man passes away from self-inflicted gunshot wound
A 34-year-old Prairie du Sac man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Sauk Prairie Hospital after multiple law enforcement agencies attempted to locate and negotiate with him.
According to the press release from the Sauk Prairie Police Department, officers from the Sauk Prairie Police Department along with the Reedsburg Police Department, Sauk County Sheriff’s Department, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department attempted to locate and check the welfare of the man during the evening hours of Aug. 17. The vehicle was reported to be traveling through Reedsburg, into Richland County and back into Sauk County.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department Critical Incident Negotiations Team made cell phone contact with the man, who told negotiators he was driving to Sauk Prairie Hospital to take his own life.
Law enforcement officials from the Sauk Prairie Police Department, Sauk County Sheriff’s Department and the Dane County Sheriff’s Department secured the hospital building for safety.
Police said at about 9:50 p.m., the man’s vehicle entered the main parking lot of the hospital and parked. The man then exited the vehicle and shot himself.
Officers rendered aid to the man and notified the emergency department staff at the hospital. The man later died of the self-inflicted gunshot wound in the emergency room.
