December 3, 2018

A man narrowly escaped serious injury and possible death in St. Paul Sunday when a bullet fired at him lodged in the front of his baseball cap.

The victim, a 38-year-old male, was treated for a bloody injury to his forehead and released from the hospital, police said.

Police spokesman Steve Linders said a bullet was found lodged in the forehead area of the baseball cap the victim was wearing. The vehicle he was sitting in at the time was also apparently struck once by gunfire.

According to police: the victim pulled up to a house in the 800 block of Arkwright Street. He was talking from inside his car with a person outside of the vehicle when the suspect walked around a corner and began firing about 1:15 a.m.

The suspect fled on foot, and has not been arrested.

Linders said the case remains under investigation, and that its unclear how far the suspect was from the victim, the caliber of the weapon used and the possible motive.
