St. Johnsbury voters can take bus to Town Meeting Day polls
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — Voters in St. Johnsbury will be able to take a shuttle bus to the polls on Town Meeting Day as part of a get-out-the-vote effort.
The school district has hired a bus for $500 to transport voters. The town manager says the town will pay half the bill.
The Caledonian Record reports that Superintendent Dr. Brian Ricca hatched the idea as a way to get more people to the polls. He says “increasing public participation is good civics and a great example for our students.”
Ricca says the bus plans to run every hour from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., stopping at two trailer parks and several restaurants and traveling down a number of streets before arriving at the school.
