Lexicon Wins Paumonok Handicap

NEW YORK (AP) _ Lexicon raced to a frontrunning 1 1/4-length victory in the $80,925 Paumonok Handicap for horses three and older at Aqueduct Saturday.

Say Florida Sandy finished second in the six-horse field, 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Kashatreya.

The 6-year-old Lexicon was coming off two third-place finishes in Grade III sprints in California.

Lexicon carried 115 pounds with Aaron Gryder over six furlongs in 1:09 and earned $48,555 for Jerome Moss. The win was the 10th in 30 starts for Lexicon.

Lexicon probably will next run in the $300,000 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct May 6.

The winner returned $6.50, $3.30 and $2.50. Say Florida Sandy paid $2.70 and $2.10 and Kashatreya was $3.10 to show.
