CLEVELAND (AP) _ The Cleveland Indians announced Tuesday that first baseman-designated hitter Pat Tabler has signed a two-year contract with the American League club.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Tabler, 29, batted .307 with 11 home runs, 34 doubles and 86 runs batted in last season. He was Cleveland’s only representative in the 1987 All-Star Game. Tabler has a .299 batting average in his five seasons with the Indians.

Cleveland also announced that Bob Molinaro has been named the organization’s roving minor league hitting instructor. Molinaro, 37, filled the same position for the Baltimore Orioles in 1987.

Molinaro spent four full seasons and parts of four others in the major leagues with five teams. He had a .264 lifetime batting average with 14 home runs. Molinaro managed Baltimore’s Class A farm club at Hagerstown in 1986, after retiring as a player after the 1985 season.

Cleveland opens its spring training camp on Feb. 19 in Tucson, Ariz.
