Pittsburgh police search for man who carjacked, beat woman

November 12, 2018

Pittsburgh police are searching for a suspect and a car involved in a violent carjacking Wednesday evening in the South Side Flats.

Police say it appears a woman drove to the Soho neighborhood and picked up a man she knows along Fifth Avenue.

About 5:57 p.m. the woman parked in the area of Merriman Street and South 21st Street. That is where, police say, the woman was beaten and pistol-whipped.

Then, about 7:30 p.m., the man drove the victim’s vehicle behind Wharton Square and threw her out of the car, police said.

The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

The severely beaten woman walked to a grocery store for help.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is in serious condition Thursday morning.

Police are searching for the victim’s vehicle, described as a dark blue Nissan Versa with the license plate KMV-6629.

Anyone with information is asked to call at 412-323-7800.
