EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the fatal beating of his sister's boyfriend during an argument at a southwestern Indiana motel has been sentenced to prison.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports 55-year-old Steven Bailey was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison and one year on probation. He was originally charged with murder in the August 2017 death of 53-year-old Paul Phillips. Bailey says he hopes Phillips' family and his own family can forgive him.

Bailey and his sister, Cheryl Rumsey, were arrested after Phillips was found dead with severe injuries to his head and face in a room of the Evansville Inn and Suites. Rumsey earlier pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years, including five years of probation.
