Utah 62, Brigham Young 60

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Keith Chapman made consecutive 3-pointers in the final 1:08 as Utah upset No. 11 Brigham Young 62-20 Saturday night in the Western Athletic Conference.

Chapman’s 3-pointer with 1:08 left put Utah ahead 57-56, but Mike Smith’s three-point play with 50 seconds reamining regained the lead for the Cougars. Chapman’s second straight 3-pointer gave Utah a 60-59 lead.

Brigham Young’s Brian Taylor missed a shot from the key with 14 seconds left and Tommy Connor made two free throws with nine seconds left to extend the lead to three.

Taylor made a free throw with three seconds left and deliberately missed the second shot, but his tipin at the buzzer was short.

Mitch Smith scored 25 points for Utah, 17-9 and 9-5, and Watkins Singletary added 14. Jeff Chatman scored 19 points for the Cougars, 23-2 and 12-2, who led 36-31 at halftime.
