Authorities: California woman grabs captor’s gun, shoots him
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a woman held against her will at a Southern California apartment managed to get her captor’s gun and shoot him in self-defense.
Officials say sheriff’s deputies found a 25-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound along a roadside in Thousand Oaks Saturday.
Around the same time police were dispatched to an apartment complex, where a woman said she had been held captive by an armed man for hours.
The Ventura County Star reports the woman says the man sexually battered her, threatened to shoot her, and used force to prevent her from leaving.
Police Sgt. Eric Buschow says the woman grabbed the gun when her captor was distracted and shot him.
Buschow says the suspect’s wound is non-life-threatening. He’s expected to be arrested after being released from a hospital.
