December 19, 1997

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ Jason Hart scored 18 points and added eight assists Thursday night, leading No. 25 Syracuse past Buffalo 82-70.

Buffalo (5-4) stayed close in its first-ever visit to the Carrier Dome with some accurate long-range shooting in the first half. But Syracuse’s height advantage and stingy 2-3 zone defense wore down the Bulls.

Syracuse (8-0) ran off a 12-4 spurt to start the second half. Hart forced a turnover and scored three layups during the run that gave Syracuse a 51-36 lead with 14:48 left.

The Orangemen finished off the Bulls with a barrage of 3s _ two by Todd Burgan and one each by Hart and Ryan Blackwell _ to take a 67-43 lead with 8:04 remaining.

Mike Martinho, who hit six 3s, led the Bulls with 23 points and Rasaun Young had 21.

Burgan led the Orangemen with 19 points, Blackwell had 16 and a game-high 12 rebounds and Etan Thomas finished with 10 points and six blocks.

Syracuse, which led 39-32 at halftime, led by as many as 10 points in the first half. Buffalo hit 5-of-10 shots from 3-point range to stay close, with Martinho making three.
