WASHINGTON (AP) _ Teresa Weatherspoon’s field goal with 41 seconds left in overtime broke the game’s final tie and lifted the New York Liberty to a 62-61 victory over the Washington Mystics on Sunday.

Washington, which lost its seventh straight game in its first ever overtime, had a chance to tie the game but reserve forward Leila de Souza Sobral made just one of two free throws with three seconds to play.

New York (7-5), which trailed by 11 points with 7:07 left in regulation, sent the game into overtime on a basket by center Kym Hampton that tied the game 54-54 with 11 seconds left in regulation.

The Liberty had a chance to win in regulation but Washington forward Penny Moore knocked the ball away from New York forward Vickie Johnson as she drove for a layup in the closing seconds.

Hampton finished with 17 points for New York, which shot a season-low 16.2 percent in the first half and trailed 25-17 at halftime. The total of 42 points was a WNBA record low for one half.

The Liberty also got 14 points and 13 rebounds from Rebecca Lobo, while Sophia Witherspoon added 14 points.

Nikki McCray had 15 points to lead Washington (1-10), while Murriel Page had 12 points and 14 rebounds and Alessandra Santos de Oliveira added 11 rebounds.
