MBU women’s soccer team ousted in 2OT

The Maranatha women’s soccer team lost to Providence University College 3-2 at home in the second overtime period of Saturday’s NCCAA North Region Championship.

Providence’s Sofia Beltrame scored the game-tying goal in the last minute of regulation to knot the score at two apiece.

Neither team scored in the first overtime session. The Pilots scored the game-winning goal off a Katerina Cook penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.

For Maranatha (8-7-1), Amy Montgomery started the scoring in the 10th minute off an assist from Jaclyn Dahl. Alexis Sponable netted an unassisted goal in the 15th minute to put the Sabercats in front 2-0.

Cook scored the first Providence (11-5-3) goal in the 43rd minute off a Caleigh Pedan assist.
