The following preliminary hearings are scheduled before District Judge Susan Mankamyer in Boswell:

Strangulation

James Tunstall, 34, 5th Street, Acosta, was charged April 29 with second-degree felony strangulation, simple assault and a summary offense. According to a probable-cause affidavit, on April 28 Tunstall threw a woman to the ground and choked her with the hood of her sweatshirt. Tunstall was arraigned April 29 before on-call District Judge Douglas McCall Bell, of Meyersdale, and was sent to the Somerset County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond. Tunstall’s preliminary hearing Wednesday was canceled, according to an online court document.

Driving under the influence

Christopher Campbell, 40, Northfork Road, Johnstown, was charged Monday with two counts of driving under the influence and two summary offenses. According to a probable-cause affidavit, at about 11:46 p.m. April 28 Conemaugh Township police stopped a vehicle driven by Campbell along Franklin Street for swerving. Campbell had a blood alcohol content of 0.246%, according to the affidavit. A preliminary hearing had yet to be scheduled Wednesday.

Theft by deception

Michael Kozuch III, 38, Sickle Ridge Road, Confluence, was charged Monday with theft by deception. According to a probable-cause affidavit, on Feb. 8 Kozuch took $1,200 for a down payment for a property but then sold the land to another person. Kozuch told police that he did not pay back the money, according to the affidavit. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. June 5.
