I-10 Shootout brings three 2018 state teams to Katy
The largest I-10 Shootout in the history of the annual girls soccer tournament features eight brackets and 64 teams this year, including the entire 2018 Region III-6A tournament field and all but one from the Class 6A state tournament.
Defending state champion Memorial opens the Falcon Bracket with a state semifinal rematch against McAllen. The Mustangs won the Falcon title last year on their way to an undefeated season.
Spring Branch ISD sends three teams to Katy for the tournament. Spring Woods opens the Panther Bracket at Paetow High School against first-year varsity squad Grand Oaks. Stratford will play in the Maverick Bracket at Morton Ranch High School, kicking off against Fort Bend Austin.
State semifinalist Cinco Ranch looks to defend its Cougar Bracket title. All seven of last year’s bracket winners return, including Seven Lakes (Spartan), Tomball (Maverick), Cy-Fair (Mustang), Cypress Lakes (Ram) and El Paso Coronado (Tiger).
Overall, the tournament, scheduled for Jan. 10-12, includes 14 returning UIL area champions and more than 40 playoff teams. Tompkins, Tomball and St. Agnes all reached the regional championship match in their respective brackets. Kingwood, Clear Springs and San Antonio Johnson were regional semifinalists, with Deer Park, Texas City, Porter, Brazoswood, Clements and Cypress Woods all making the third round.
The I-10 Shootout Tournament Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization which provides scholarship funds to local high school players and supports school athletic booster clubs.
