DeKalb County police agencies invite community to National Night Out

August 6, 2018

DeKALB – Local public safety agencies are teaming up to promote National Night Out, a free community awareness fair, Tuesday in the Target parking lot, 2555 Sycamore Road in DeKalb.

From 5 to 8 p.m., the parking lot will be the site of information and vendor booths, demonstrations and activities. Visitors can watch live safety demonstrations and meet police officers from the Northern Illinois University, DeKalb and Sycamore police departments and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, and firefighters with the DeKalb and Sycamore fire departments.

There will be free snacks and games, and booths staffed by community agencies such as the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, Family Service Agency, Adventure Works, Bill Cho’s Taekwondo, Hero Martial Arts, RAMP, DeKalb County Youth Services Bureau and more.

Children can learn valuable skills in the fire department smoke house and in the 911 simulation center, where they can safely practice dialing 911 so they are ready in a real emergency.

National Night Out is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, generate support for local anti-crime initiatives, strengthen relationships between residents and law enforcement, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized, aware and fighting back.
