Cause of death may not bring more charges

John NickersonMay 16, 2019

STAMFORD — A doctor’s decision over what killed a Stamford woman last November may not result in more charges being filed against her husband or mother-in-law who were slapped with misdemeanor cruelty charges for waiting too long to call an ambulance for Iris Lopez, who later died of an injury to her head.

This week the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that Olga Iris Lopez, 36, who died about 12 hours after she was found unconscious in her mother-in-law’s Southwood Square apartment last November, was killed due to blunt force injury to her head and chronic alcoholism and cirrhosis. The manner of death, which will determine if it was an accident or homicide, has not yet been decided.
