Bridgeport PD: Man threatened car occupants, fired gun
BRIDGEPORT — A city man was charged Sunday after he allegedly threatened people in a car he was driving and eventually pointed the gun at them and then fired it in the air, according to police.
Jayvaughn Sanchez, 21, of Stillman Street, was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said Sanchez, “threatened occupants of a vehicle he was driving in with them on the way back from a club in New Haven.” It was unclear if Sanchez knew the occupants or if he was operating as a ride-hailing service during the incident.
When Sanchez got back to Bridgeport, he got out of the car, pointed a gun at the victims and then fired shots in the area, Fitzgerald said. He was arrested after an investigation by the patrol division.
No one was reported injured by the incident.
Sanchez is expected to appear in court at 10 a.m. on Jan. 18. He was released from custody on a $50,000 surety bond.
