2 killed in North Carolina’s largest city over weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina are investigating a pair of slayings over the weekend, the second weekend in a row in which investigators have looked into multiple deaths.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release that 20-year-old Tylek Hamilton is charged with homicide in the death of 19-year-old Audeja Sutton. According to police, Sutton was found with multiple stab wounds in east Charlotte on Saturday.

In the other case, police officers found a man in the road with a gunshot wound. The unidentified man died at a local hospital. There have been no arrests in the case.

The Charlotte Observer reports there have been 49 homicides in the city in 2019. Three of them occurred during the last weekend in April.
