Beverage leads Knights to boys title

CHARLESTON - Cabell Midland’s Gavin Beverage set meet records in his specialty events Thursday and led the Knights to the Mountain State Athletic Conference boys track and field title.

Cabell Midland also brought home the girls team crown from University of Charleston Stadium.

Beverage won the shot put with a MSAC-record throw of 62 feet 8 inches and also was first in the discus with a new standard of 171-1.50.

Cabell Midland’s boys won the 4x800-meter relay with Will Turman, Jacob Ashworth, Mason Moran and Ben Parker finishing in a time of 8:59.52.

The Knights compiled 124 points to finish ahead of Parkersburg (100), Spring Valley (65), Woodrow Wilson (60) and Hurricane (50).

Spring Valley took first place in the 4x100 relay with Aiden Sperry, Tyson Hall, Kobe Vanhoose and Owen Chafin clocked in 44.59 seconds.

Jaylen Snyder of Hurricane won the long jump with a meet-record leap of 23-2.75 while also clearing 6-8 to place first in the high jump.

Cabell Midland’s girls stormed to a team title with 143 points followed by Hurricane (78), Huntington High (71), Woodrow Wilson (68) and St. Albans (58).

Anya Miller was a double-winner for the Cabell Midland girls in the 800 (2:22.01) and 3200 (12.14.22). Emilie Charles from the Knights won the 400 (1:03.66) and Emma Jenkins won the 1600 (5:27.04).

Huntington High sprinter LaTihia Jackson finished first in the 100 (12.96).

Nadia Legros and Hannah Wright from Hurricane were first-place finishers in the high jump (5-4) and pole vault (9-6) respectively.

Cabell Midland’s girls also won two relays. The 4x400 foursome of Charles, Miller, Gretchen Mills and Alaina Mills won with a time of 4:16.69. The 4x800 winners were Chloe Adkins, Emma Londeree, Brynn Smith and Gretchen Mills with a time of 10:20.06,

Hurricane’s 4x100 relay of Gabriell McNabb, Alyson Long, Abby Fowler and Sydney Wheeler won with a meet-record time of 50.09 seconds.
