BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man accused of attacking a woman with a Japanese wooden sword has been arrested.

AL.com reports 47-year-old Michael Craig Brittain was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest. The victim's condition is unclear.

Investigators wrote in an arrest warrant that Brittain had a detailed plan to kill the victim and her ex-husband. Court documents state that the woman was a part-time resident in Brittain's home.

The plan revealed "serious mental health concerns" to investigators.

Brittain posted a $50,500 bond at Shelby County Jail on Monday. As a condition of the bond, Brittain is not allowed to have any contact with the victim.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 6. It's unclear if Brittain has a lawyer.

Further details had not been released.
