Packers Sign DE Prospect Gilmore
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Free agent defensive end John Gilmore, a former Tennessee State basketball player, signed Thursday with the Green Bay Packers.
The 6-foot-4, 283-pound Gilmore played four years of college basketball but only one year of football at Houston Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas.
Packers director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie said the team allocated Gilmore to the Amsterdam Admirals for the upcoming NFL Europe League season.
``He’s a big guy and he had a good workout,″ McKenzie said. ``We consider him a prospect.″
Gilmore started his college basketball career at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before transferring to Tyler, Texas, Junior College, Oklahoma State and Tennessee State.
The Packers also cut wide receiver Kenny Coutain and defensive back Gana Joseph, and waived strong safety Terrence Carroll of Oregon after he failed a physical examination.
