Havasu grapplers go 1-2 in duals at host wrestling meet
Battling injuries and illnesses, the Lake Havasu wrestling team sat many of its top wrestlers at the Lake Havasu Multiple Meet, dropping two of three duals at the quadrangular with Estrella Foothills, Buckeye Union and Shadow Mountain.
“We were missing half of our team,” Havasu coach Ryan Schuman said. “We were wrestling with seven wrestlers. That’s a lot of points to give up.”
The Knights were able to overcome their short roster to win their dual with Shadow Mountain, but couldn’t stack up with Estrella Foothills or Buckeye — teams they will see again in January the lead up to the state tournament.
Havasu gets some time to heal up, heading into a long holiday break. The Knights aren’t back on the mats until Jan. 11 at the Dan Salyer tournament at Mohave.
“We’ve got a long break,” Scuman said. “Get some healing and recovery in and we’ll be back to it.”
