Sentences _ But No Attempted Murder Charge _ For German Synagogue Firebombers
SCHLESWIG, Germany (AP) _ A court today sentenced four men to jail terms of 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 years for the first torching of a synagogue in Germany since the Nazi era.
Judge Hermann Ehrich declined to sentence the four for attempted murder as the prosecutor had requested.
Five people were sleeping in apartments above the Luebeck synagogue when the youths hurled gasoline-filled beer bottles into the building on March 25, 1994. Everyone inside escaped unharmed.
