The University of Maryland men’s and women’s basketball schedules for the 2018-19 season are now complete, as both teams’ Big Ten Conference slates have been released.
A trip to Madison Square Garden to play Illinois Jan. 26 stands out on the men’s schedule. The game was planned a few years ago as part of the conference’s fourth annual “Super Saturday” doubleheader of college basketball and college hockey at the famed arena. The hockey matchup for 2019 has yet to be announced.
The men begin conference play Saturday, Dec. 1 at home against Penn State, then play at Purdue Dec. 6 before the conference schedule resumes in January.
Maryland only has to play one game against Michigan State, expected to be the best team in the Big Ten. The Terrapins will go to East Lansing Jan. 21.
The Terrapins only play consecutive home conference games twice: Jan. 11 and 14 against Indiana and Wisconsin, then March 3 and 8 against Michigan and Minnesota to close out the regular season.
The women’s team kicks off conference action Dec. 28 at Penn State, then hosts Rutgers on New Year’s Eve. From there, most of its schedule alternates home and away. But its toughest test is likely not a Big Ten opponent, but South Carolina, the 2017 national champions, on the road on Nov. 18.
The men’s conference schedule can be viewed here, while the full women’s schedule is available here.
