MCHS girls golf gets back on track, sets season-low mark in scoring

MOUNT CARMEL -- Following a rough stretch that had Mount Carmel girls golf go 1-3, they responded to the adversity, winning against Fairfield on Tuesday at the Mount Carmel Municipal Golf course.

Setting a season-low mark, the Lady Aces scored a total of 171 and handily defeated Fairfield.

All four Lady Aces were within each other’s score and were the top four golfers of the day.

First, junior Allyson Armstrong finished first with medalist honors, excelling to a score of 38 on the day.

Slotted in the second spot was freshman Daisy Schrader. Schrader capped her day with a 43.

Third for the Lady Aces, sophomore Maya Smith who set her season-low mark, golfing a 44.

Rounding it up for Mt. Carmel was junior Faith Witsman. Witsman capped her day with a 46, still 11 strokes less than any Fairfield golfer on the day.

Next up for Mt. Carmel, the Big Eight Conference tournament at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Evansville. The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8, but was rescheduled to Thursday, Sept. 13 due to rain. The Lady Aces will aim to top their finish of fifth among the seven teams last year -- entering with positive momentum following the win over Fairfield.
