Clinton, Albright Call Leaders

WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright reached out by telephone to world leaders Thursday on the deadly outbreak of violence in the Middle East.

Clinton talked twice to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Jordan’s King Abdullah, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Albright talked to President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen, Mubarak, Abdullah, Annan and twice to Robin Cook, the British foreign secretary.
