LONDON (AP) _ Elton John doesn’t know whether Queen Elizabeth II will like the music that he and other rock stars will perform for her Golden Jubilee next month.
``I don’t know how much the queen likes pop music,″ John said in an interview Friday on British Broadcasting Corp. television. ``She grins and bears it. She is probably the best in the world at grinning and bearing it at every occasion, whether it’s Maori dancing or pop music.″
He recently recorded a song inside Buckingham Palace. A video of his performance will be shown because he’ll be on tour and unable to perform at the June 3 show. The 76-year-old monarch is marking 50 years on the throne.
Hundreds of thousands of people have applied for 12,000 free tickets to the holiday event, which will feature Ozzy Osbourne, Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin and Brian Wilson.
``She understands what a performer has to go through,″ John said. ``I feel so sorry for her when she goes to all these different countries, has to stand there and watch things, and she must be bored out of her mind half the time.″
But, he said, she never shows that ``because she is such a professional.″
