Jack L. Tanner, 81, of Herscher, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2018) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. He was born Dec. 27, 1936, in Kankakee, the son of Elmer L. and Irene Woods Tanner. Jack married Donna Imhauser on Nov. 28, 1964, at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Kankakee.
Jack was a Herscher High School graduate. He also graduated from Chicago Institute of Technology and Olivet Nazarene University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a systems analyst for 25 years at various banks, as well as a tax consultant for more than 20 years at Larimer & O’Connor. Jack enjoyed bowling and participated in various bowling leagues at Gala Lane and Marycrest Lanes. He had a passion for mowing and lawn care. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching “Jeopardy.” He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events — ice hockey, soccer, football and bowling. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Kankakee.
Jack is survived by his wife, Donna Tanner, of Herscher; one son, Chris Tanner (September Null), of Groveland; one daughter, Tammy Ullman, of Herscher; four grandchildren, Collin, Alex, Tim and Hailey; and one brother and one sister-in-law, Ken and Becky Tanner, of Yuma, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. An additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Nov. 12, at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Kankakee. Burial will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
