Road closings announced for Tour de La Porte

August 23, 2018

La PORTE – The public is encouraged to watch La Porte County roads for closures on Saturday and to take caution and watch for cyclists on Sunday during the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte’s (HFL) 17th Annual Tour de La Porte (TdL) bike, run and walk event to benefit local cancer patients.

TdL is a three-day event held in August each year. More than 1,500 community members come together to participate in, volunteer at and/or sponsor this event, with the goal of providing the resources that people in our community need after a cancer diagnosis.

Temporary road closures are necessary around the area of the running events (5k, 10k and half marathon) on Saturday morning to ensure the safety of participants and residents. Roads will be blocked by a moving barricade that will be removed once the last runner/walker has passed.

Tentative road opening times are as follows:

• 8:45 a.m., Waverly and Orr Lake roads

• 9 a.m., Garden Street

• 9:15 a.m., North Goldring and part of West Small roads

• 9:30 a.m., Goldring Road and Weller Avenue

• 9:45 a.m., West CR-150N

• 10 a.m., North CR-500W

• 10:45 a.m., Small Road

• 11 a.m., Lake Shore Drive

• 11:15 a.m., the streets bordering Stone Lake Beach

Police and course monitors will be present to monitor traffic, and residents living along the course will be permitted to enter and exit the route during slow periods of the race. Motorists are advised to use caution and be extra careful when approaching intersections or pulling out of driveways.

TdL includes a cycling event on Sunday where participants choose their route distance ranging from 5 to 100 miles. All events will begin and end at Cummings Lodge in Soldiers Memorial Park, with participants riding throughout La Porte County all morning and afternoon. No roads will be closed on that day, but drivers are encouraged to be extra cautious and aware of passing cyclists on the roadways.
