Miss. Governor Has Cancer Again
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) _ Gov. Kirk Fordice said Thursday he has cancer again five years after his diseased prostate was removed.
Fordice, 64, will begin radiation next month after a checkup last week uncovered residual cancer.
``There are lots of people who have gone through this same scenario, who have gone ahead and lived out a normal lifespan,″ said Fordice, the state’s first Republican governor this century.
``That’s what the doctor expects, and I have full confidence in him.″
Fordice is in his second term and he is ineligible to serve a third. His term expires in January 2000.
Well known for his outdoor hobbies, Fordice joked about his upcoming treatment.
``I’ve got to work it around some duck hunting. ... I won’t do it any other way,″ he said.
