Trial date set for Tucson man accused of manslaughter
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Nov. 13 trial date has been set for a Tucson man in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend in 2012.
Ronald Corbin Jr. was indicted last September on a charge of manslaughter after the case was reopened.
Pima County prosecutors originally didn’t pursue the case, saying there wasn’t enough evidence.
But a county grand jury indicted Corbin, citing reckless use of a firearm in Genna Ayup’s death.
The Corbin says the shooting was accidental and pleaded not guilty.
Corbin told police he was putting a rubber grip on a loaded handgun when it fired.
Authorities say Corbin admitted to drinking several beers before the Ayup was shot in the head in front of the couple’s young son in their home.
She later died at a hospital.
