Edwardsville Hometown Committee Hosts Free Movie Nights

This summer is going way to fast! Why don’t our snowy winters go by this quickly? Hopefully, we all can make some great memories! The Edwardsville Hometown Committee will hold free movie nights at John Hopkins Park, High Street, Edwardsville, on Friday, Aug. 3, and Friday, Sept. 7. The concession stand will be open both nights and snacks will be available for purchase. There will also be a “Market in the Park” event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 9. Public is welcome. Vending applications are available at Hoagie Mike’s or the Edwardsville Borough Building, Main Street, Edwardsville. Bingo in the Park Swoyersville Mayor Christopher Concert is looking for donations of gift cards or certificates for prizes for the mayor’s upcoming “Bingo in the Park.” Call 570-239-4124. To keep community activities free, the mayor is continuing his aluminum can collection. The mayor’s movie night is 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. Location and movie will be announced soon. St. John the Baptist Church bazaar The Rev. Jerry Gurka and the Parish Family of St. John the Baptist Church, 126, Nesbitt St., Larksville, invites the public to the annual parish family picnic, to be held on the church grounds Friday to Sunday, Aug. 10-12. There will be a theme basket stand, flea market, bingo, games and prizes for all ages, ethnic and American foods, including more than 40,000 pierogies hand made by parishioners. Entertainment schedule is: 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, music by John Stevens Double Shot; 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, music by George Tarasek (Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m.); 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, music by Tommy and the Original Tones; 2 p.m., Pierogie Wedding Story. Attic sale Grandma’s Attic will be held in Conlan Hall, St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 28, bag day. A bake sale will be held and food items will be available for lunch. Pool party Christmas in July at the Forty Fort Pool will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25.
