‘Sister Act 2’ Actor Acquitted of Rape Charges
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Actor Ron Johnson was acquitted Wednesday of charges he raped a teen-ager on the set of ″Sister Act 2″ and another woman he met at a party for the movie ″Zebrahead.″
A Superior Court jury deliberated fewer than four hours before acquitting Johnson, who wept as the verdicts were read.
The 21-year-old actor, who had a small role in Whoopi Goldberg’s film ″Sister Act 2,″ was accused of attacking a 16-year-old girl who worked as one of hundreds of unpaid extras.
She testified that the attack occurred Aug. 16 after she went to Johnson’s location trailer to give him a set of drinking glasses on the last day of filming. After unwrapping the package, Johnson forced himself on her, she said.
Defense lawyer John Yzurdiaga argued that the teen-ager was infatuated with Johnson and initiated sex with him.
Jurors also found Johnson innocent of raping a 19-year-old woman he met at a promotional party for ″Zebrahead.″ Johnson made his film debut in the 1992 film.
That woman, who claimed Johnson raped her in a stairwell, came forward after seeing news reports about the ″Sister Act″ case.
