SETX angling event gets Discovery Channel coverage

November 21, 2018

Angling fans in Port Arthur will get the chance to relive their hometown tournament this weekend when the Elite Redfish Series broadcasts coverage of its Southeast Texas event nationally on the Discovery Channel.

They’ll have to set their alarms or their recording devices.

The professional fishing tournament took place on Sabine Lake the first week of April in conjunction with Port Arthur’s Cajun Fest. It will be televised for the first time on Sunday at 6 a.m.

The Discovery Channel episode captures anglers launching, fishing and and presenting their catch on stage at Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

“Windy, wet and wild, this event challenged the pros in every way,” Elite Redfish Series owner Pat Malone said.

Darragh Castillo, Destination Management Specialist for the Port Arthur Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the televised event is a chance for the city to market itself to non-residents.

“Our desire is that people from all over, when they see this episode they think ’Hey, I can come fishing in Port Arthur or spend any type of good time there,” Castillo said.

Discovery is channel 54 for Port Arthur area Spectrum subscribers. Check Discovery Channel listings for additional information.
