U.S. Air Force Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Manila
MANILA, Philippines (AP) _ A U.S. Air Force jet on its way to Japan made an emergency landing at the Manila airport today after smoke filled the cockpit.
The VC-137 aircraft, which was flying from Bangkok, Thailand, to Yokota Air Base, landed safely at around 7:30 a.m. at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said Arnold Abad of the Manila Rescue Coordinating Center.
All the plane’s 23 crewmembers and seven passengers were safe, Abad said.
U.S. Embassy spokesman J. Bernard Lovejoy said the plane ``had various engine and cabin problems.″
